Translana will be funded if deal can be struck says Health Minister

Taxpayers will fund a drug which could improve the life of a seven-year-old boy if government can secure it at a ‘discounted price’.

That’s the message from the Health and Social Care Minister who says she’ll be approving the use of Translana if an agreement can be reached with NHS England.

The news will come as a welcome relief to the family of Finley Hesketh – the schoolboy has Duchene Muscular Dystrophy and it’s believed the drug could keep him walking for longer; funding for it has previously been denied. 

Kate Beecroft says her officers are now in communication with the drug company and she’ll inform people of the outcome when it’s known.
